Given the current trajectories of affairs in the realms of geopolitics and ecology, it has become increasingly clear that the world as we know it is doomed. The time and manner of this apocalypse are indeterminate, but it is clear that the story of human life as we know it is coming to a close on Earth.
As what may very well be the last cultural generation of artists on Earth, we have a moral obligation to beautify and prepare the corpse of the human-created world for burial. The Exceptionihilists somberly accept this duty to celebrate the life of humanity.
Expressions of Exceptionihilism may include, but certainly are not limited to:
1. Subversive or illegal civic improvement or beautification.
2. Tiny, beautiful objects hidden for strangers to find.
3. Existential outbursts which disrupt conversation about weather or television.
4. Performance art which may be indistinguishable from the quotidien activity of everyday life.
Exceptionihilist expressions are sometimes of the variety which can, given a particular perspective, be deemed "pointless". We reject this perspective. Everything is pointless on a long enough time scale, and the scale we are concerned with is the entire length of human history. At this moment, with certain doom upon us, saying any one particular thing is pointless is drawing a distinction without a difference.
It is taken as a given that the variety of Exceptionihilist expressions will increase over time, and that many existing works will come to be recognized as exhibiting characteristics of the Exceptionihilist viewpoint, perhaps to the great dismay of their creators. Ultimately, as with all human affairs, Exceptionihilism is meaningless. Penultimately, it is a deeply personal expression of gratitude and love that is incredibly meaningful.
